Abstract:Civilization originated from unique physical world and the ecological environment. Wild nature gave a great inspiration for the design of ancient Chinese landscapes. Landscape architecture in China has a history of over three thousand years. In ancient times, the essential character of landscape architectures is ecological aesthetics in natural environment, not architectural space or artificial construction. If we try to search for its origins, we may find that natural ecological environment ranks the first place for the aesthetics of landscape architecture. Man's designing of landscape architectures firstly depends on the physical form, then on the standard of "though nature aspects but all man made", finally on a belief of the ideal world in which "rule follows the nature" and "heaven and man combined into one body". It is a mistaken concept today to look landscape architecture as the range of architecture. Ancient Chinese gardens once enlightened Europe classic landscape design. Today western scholars are still trying to research on Chinese cultural heritages and looking for a new way to create livable environment for human being in the future.
